So Alan and Barry are pseudonyms of Terry's 00:07:55 --> 00:07:57 friends. 00:07:57 --> 00:08:03 So as I said, Linda talked with Terry and Alan, actually conducting interviews via the 00:08:03 --> 00:08:11 phone, over email, but apparently Barry's whereabouts are unknown. 00:08:11 --> 00:08:15 We don't know what happened to Barry. 00:08:15 --> 00:08:21 But around this time, there were whispers of a dog woman roaming near South Mountain, 00:08:21 --> 00:08:23 which is near Reading, Pennsylvania. 00:08:23 --> 00:08:28 If you've heard of like, you know, the Reading Railroad, I think that's a, like a Monopoly 00:08:28 --> 00:08:29 square. 00:08:29 --> 00:08:33 It is, but I don't know if it's named after that. 00:08:33 --> 00:08:34 Probably is. 00:08:34 --> 00:08:36 Rail, Pennsylvania, a lot of industry back in the day. 00:08:36 --> 00:08:40 It's actually, a lot of them are named after the New Jersey Boardwalk. 00:08:40 --> 00:08:41 Okay, you Jersey-list. 00:08:41 --> 00:08:45 I'm sorry, we don't talk about New Jersey. 00:08:45 --> 00:08:50 Or Bruno, sorry. 00:08:51 --> 00:08:58 People said that this beast, this dog woman, lurked around the grounds of an abandoned 00:08:58 --> 00:09:06 resort complex called the Grandview Sanatorium, which was apparently razed, a controlled raze, 00:09:06 --> 00:09:09 it wasn't like arson or anything, in 1967. 00:09:09 --> 00:09:13 So only several years prior, this building was burned down. 00:09:13 --> 00:09:14 Sanatorium? 00:09:14 --> 00:09:21 Yeah, so I don't know why it was called the Grandview Sanatorium, but a resort complex? 00:09:21 --> 00:09:24 Interesting, maybe it was a sanatorium first or like second? 00:09:24 --> 00:09:25 Yeah. 00:09:25 --> 00:09:32 Because that implies what, like, recovering from consumption in the olden days, right? 00:10:16 --> 00:10:17 Any guesses? 00:10:17 --> 00:10:18 Chains or shackles. 00:10:18 --> 00:10:19 Close. 00:10:19 --> 00:10:20 Aaron? 00:10:20 --> 00:10:33 See, I was going the direction of like a grave or like a casket or something. 00:10:33 --> 00:10:34 So Frank's a little closer. 00:10:34 --> 00:10:38 It's actually a massive iron meat hook. 00:10:38 --> 00:10:39 Ooh. 00:10:39 --> 00:10:40 Naturally. 00:10:40 --> 00:10:46 And so there's kind of an urban legend around the meat hook that I'll talk about. 00:10:46 --> 00:10:54 So allegedly, an unknown killer murdered five people, butchered them, and stored them in 00:10:54 --> 00:10:55 that chamber. 00:10:55 --> 00:10:56 Ooh. 00:10:56 --> 00:11:03 And on, and on dark nights, muffled screams from his victims were alleged to be heard. 00:11:04 --> 00:11:06 Is that just dead by daylight? 00:11:06 --> 00:11:07 I don't know. 00:11:07 --> 00:11:11 This also sounds like the Cropsey story from Staten Island. 00:11:11 --> 00:11:13 Yeah, kind of. 00:11:13 --> 00:11:20 But Linda points out in her book that apparently a reporter was quoted as saying that the story 00:11:20 --> 00:11:21 is bunk. 00:11:21 --> 00:11:22 Duh. 00:11:22 --> 00:11:28 So no basis to that, but of course, you know, the urban legend adds to the spookiness of 00:11:28 --> 00:11:31 the dog woman. 00:11:31 --> 00:11:42 But so our trio, Terry, Alan, and Barry, head off at dusk in search of the dog woman. 00:11:42 --> 00:11:46 Funny enough, this was actually not their first attempt. 00:11:46 --> 00:11:53 They had tried to go find the creature a few times beforehand, so this wasn't their first 00:11:53 --> 00:11:58 rodeo looking for it. 00:11:58 --> 00:12:03 And the reason is Alan heard about people, or heard people talking about it on the bus, 00:12:03 --> 00:12:05 so he was like, oh, we should check it out. 00:12:05 --> 00:12:06 That's crazy. 00:12:06 --> 00:12:13 And so, you know, being high school seniors, they hop in Alan's green Chevy pickup, Barry's 00:12:13 --> 00:12:20 shotgun, Terry's seated like in the middle, and they head out. 00:12:20 --> 00:12:23 So they found that stone wall pretty easily that I mentioned earlier, because it's like 00:12:23 --> 00:12:27 eight to ten feet tall, can't really miss it. 00:12:27 --> 00:12:31 And they started to slow down as they approached the chamber. 00:12:31 --> 00:12:39 And as they crept by it, they're still in the truck and they hear this awful noise 00:12:39 --> 00:12:46 that Terry described as, quote, simultaneously a deep roar and a fierce growl. 00:12:46 --> 00:12:47 Eww. 00:12:47 --> 00:12:56 And then Terry hears Barry gasp and Barry tells, I wish I didn't make them rhyme, Barry 00:12:56 --> 00:13:04 tells Alan and Terry that there's a, quote, large fur-covered creature standing on its 00:13:04 --> 00:13:12 hind legs and it was screaming at them from atop the stonework and before the three of 00:13:12 --> 00:13:18 them could react, it jumped off the wall, landing with heavy thuds on the pavement while 00:13:18 --> 00:13:21 still just screaming at them. 00:13:21 --> 00:13:22 Oh my god. 00:13:22 --> 00:13:25 I know, pretty terrifying. 00:13:25 --> 00:13:31 So Barry yells at Alan to hit the gas and without hesitation, Alan just floors it and 00:13:31 --> 00:13:35 they go down this narrow, kind of country road. 00:13:35 --> 00:13:41 However, for several hundred feet, the creature kept pace. 00:13:41 --> 00:13:46 So maybe it was a black-eyed kid, who knows? 00:13:46 --> 00:13:53 But eventually, they lost track of it, but as it was chasing them, it was really close 00:13:53 --> 00:13:59 to the rear bumper and it was still just yelling and screaming. 00:13:59 --> 00:14:07 And Terry said that after this, Alan had mentioned that he could hear the footfalls on the asphalt 00:14:07 --> 00:14:11 as it gave chase and was running after the truck. 00:14:11 --> 00:14:20 Admittedly, Terry said, or it's unfortunate, Terry never saw the creature because how he 00:14:20 --> 00:14:25 was seated in the truck, like he was in the middle, because old trucks, there could be 00:14:25 --> 00:14:28 like seats in the middle, like in the front. 00:14:28 --> 00:14:36 So Alan's driving and saw it and Barry's in shotgun, so he could see it, but Terry couldn't. 00:14:36 --> 00:14:44 And he even confesses he was too afraid to even look anyway, so frankly, I would be pretty 00:14:44 --> 00:14:46 scared too. 00:14:46 --> 00:14:54 This giant thing jumps off a stone wall and starts screaming at you and chasing your friends 00:14:54 --> 00:14:56 in a truck. 00:14:56 --> 00:15:01 All you need is to go through a bunch of doors and you have a Scooby-Doo chase scene. 00:15:01 --> 00:15:08 I wonder if anyone like there's a lot of we've seen a lot of chase scenes where it's like 00:15:08 --> 00:15:14 Oh, yep, they're driving and the thing is keeping pace. I wonder if anyone's ever tried. They're just like brake check 00:15:16 --> 00:15:23 Like you're probably going like 60 miles an hour and they just slam on their brakes and this thing just goes flying 00:15:25 --> 00:15:27 What you think would happen 00:15:27 --> 00:15:29 probably 00:15:29 --> 00:15:33 Destroy the back of your truck phases through the hair into it 00:15:37 --> 00:15:41 Well, it's interesting that's just keeping pace I mean we could yeah 00:15:42 --> 00:15:46 So after the creature stopped, so the the the trio eventually 00:15:47 --> 00:15:49 Lost it 00:15:49 --> 00:15:55 Alan for some reason wanted to turn around to try to look for it one more time. I don't know why 00:15:56 --> 00:16:02 But as they're driving back and despite Terry and Barry's very strong opposition 00:16:03 --> 00:16:05 very reluctantly 00:16:05 --> 00:16:08 shines a flashlight that's plugged into the cigarette lighter of 00:16:08 --> 00:16:14 The truck out out of the windows so they can try to see what is out where the stone wall is 00:16:16 --> 00:16:23 They didn't see anything but they could still hear growling and Alan said he saw a pair of glowing eyes 00:16:25 --> 00:16:29 So after this and hearing these noises again 00:16:30 --> 00:16:33 Terry and Barry told Alan to gas it once more 00:16:34 --> 00:16:41 He obliged and at that point the flashlight just falls from Barry's hands and it's still in 00:16:41 --> 00:16:43 It's just banging on the truck as they're 00:16:44 --> 00:16:46 Driving away 00:16:46 --> 00:16:49 So that's the the story of these three 00:16:49 --> 00:16:51 Terry 00:16:51 --> 00:16:57 Terry swears that what he says is the absolute truth that they did experience this 00:16:57 --> 00:17:00 obviously, he didn't see what it was, but he is 00:17:02 --> 00:17:04 Steadfast in his 00:17:04 --> 00:17:12 View that this happened to the three of them and Alan obviously could corroborate but and we don't know where Barry is 00:17:13 --> 00:17:15 So a handful of little details in this story 00:17:16 --> 00:17:18 Ring true to me now, I know it's crazy to 00:17:19 --> 00:17:25 Believe in dogman stories, but just some little details like wanting to turn around and go back 00:17:25 --> 00:17:28 I've heard that many many times from people that see crazy stuff 00:17:29 --> 00:17:32 The thing that immediately jumped to mind was in the Mothman 00:17:33 --> 00:17:35 story 00:17:35 --> 00:17:37 that 00:17:37 --> 00:17:43 couple similarly the original one yeah the original in the 60s yeah in uh point pleasant 00:17:44 --> 00:17:52 west virginia yeah west virginia they see like a huge dog on the side of the road or something 00:17:53 --> 00:17:58 like dead and they for a reason decide to turn around and drive past it again and it's missing 00:17:59 --> 00:18:06 so i've also heard that a lot about like people who see stuff on roads paranormal stuff so 00:18:07 --> 00:18:12 that's interesting also whenever you hear stuff about creatures or entities chasing people and 00:18:12 --> 00:18:20 keeping pace it makes you wonder can they not go faster can they not catch up are they purposefully 00:18:22 --> 00:18:27 keeping pace i don't know how fast it doesn't say how fast they were going either like if they 00:18:27 --> 00:18:33 were just going like 20 like that's fine but if they were going like 60 and it was keeping pace 00:18:33 --> 00:18:37 then we have then we have a real problem you know i mean like if it could keep pace 00:18:37 --> 00:18:42 surely it could catch up right like where are the chances that the fleeing 00:18:44 --> 00:18:50 group of people is moving at the maximum speed that the entity can go i mean if you take this 00:18:50 --> 00:18:58 at face value my thought is if this is some like guardian dog spirit which a lot of stories are 00:18:58 --> 00:19:04 it might just want them to go away there are you saying they'd be like oh i want to hear about them well no i mean like 00:19:47 --> 00:19:54 police and things like that okay i mean i guess dead men tell no tales or should i say dog There is a legend of a dear man spirit in the Ojibwe tribe in the northern forests of the United States and Canada. So I guess southern Canada. And apparently, this dear man spirit is associated with a quote, sky craft that is described as a 00:22:58 --> 00:23:01 closed clamshell. one particular day notice that all the apples were gone and where each apple was a rock replaced it that's creepy and brad says that there used to be a lot more deer around their property but now it's
